londonderry primary school
Londonderry Primary School was opened in 1969 and is set in a large site, surrounded by grass play areas on the Glenbrook Road. There have been significant extensions made to the school building over the past four years with a Foundation corridor encompassing four brand new classrooms for P1 and P2 as well as two new Special Educational Needs rooms and a resource room.
The school has been more recently enhanced with a further development of a new reception and welcome area, two new P4 classrooms and a brand new computer suite. The majority of pupils come from the surrounding area, although a few children come from further afield.
The current enrolment is around 390 pupils who have access to a modern and spacious accommodation comprising of 15 classrooms, an administration block, Assembly/PE Hall, Meals Kitchen, Dining Hall and a privately–run playgroup within the grounds, with pre and after school care is available to working parents. An early morning club operates from 8.00 am and is available to all parents as well as an after schools club which is available from 2:00pm until 5:00pm Monday to Friday.
The school aims to promote intellectual, physical, moral, cultural and spiritual development in all the pupils, through a commitment to ensure that each child achieves his or her potential. Emphasis is placed on developing competence in the basic skills through confidence and self–esteem. As an Extended School, they offer a wide and varied range of out of school activities which can be checked out on the school website.
More recently the school has become a Rights Respecting School, achieving a Level 1 Award while continuing to work towards the Level 2 Award. They also have a School Council made up of pupils from P4 to P7 as well as an Eco–Council made up of a number of wonderful eco–warriors from P3 to P7 who, as part of the Eco–team, successfully received the Green Flag award in 2016!
